The importance of being motivated

We are familiar with the sensation of cold weather and dark mornings during autumn and winter, which can make it more difficult to find the motivation to attend the spinning class we committed to. The temptation to stay in bed and scroll on our phones while wrapped up in blankets is stronger during these seasons. However, not engaging in physical activity during this time can have a significant impact on our overall health.

Engaging in physical activity through exercise not only makes us feel good, but it also triggers the release of endorphins, commonly known as the “happy hormone”, which plays a significant role in our overall well-being. 

Additionally, exposure to sunlight is important for mood regulation, although it may be limited during certain seasons. 

To boost motivation throughout the day, the Ariana Society recommends simple actions such as waking up early, writing down goals on a To-Do list, varying daily routines, taking a walk or run for an energy boost, setting realistic goals, and rewarding oneself upon completing tasks or meeting deadlines.

Perhaps we have come to recognize the significance of maintaining our exercise routine during the colder season, as it enhances not just our physical well-being but also our mental well-being. Winter tiredness can cause decreased motivation levels and low mood, which can have an impact on various aspects of our lives. However, why does this occur and how can we address it?

It’s possible that you anticipated a decrease in motivation and a drop in your mood at some point, which is a common and normal occurrence for everyone. Acknowledging this can be empowering because it eliminates feelings of guilt and shame about not achieving daily goals. By being self-aware, you will acquire lifelong skills that will help you navigate challenging periods.
