Missing the 1990s?

If you’re feeling a little nostalgic for simplicity, excitement and hopefulness of the 1990s, Ariana Society has good news for you!

We’ve brought back a staple of the ‘90s, the BBS!   Bulletin Board Systems (or BBSes, for short) were the predecessor to today’s Internet.  By connecting to a local computer (usually via dialup modem), users in the 1990s could play games, exchange files, send messages, browse forums and much more, all in a glorious text-based interface.

Well, it’s back… and it’s entirely free at retro.arianasociety.com

Ariana Society is proud to offer the Ariana Interface BBS free to the public.  Right from your web browser, you can now connect in an authentic 1990s-era ANSI terminal and play your favorite games, including:

  • Legend of the Red Dragon
  • LORD ][
  • Pimp Wars
  • Barren Realms Elite
  • …and many, many more!

You can also exchange messages, chat live, upload and download files, and much more, exactly like you could do in the 1990s. You can even send inter-BBS messages to users around the world, play multi-player games with users of other systems, chat live with other users and even get your own @retro.arianasociety.com email address.  And, again, it’s all free courtesy of Ariana Society.

Even better, create your FREE Ariana Interface BBS account and get 50% off your first month of Ariana Society (use code BBS50 when you sign up for Ariana Society).

So, how do you connect to the BBS?

There are two ways you can connect to the BBS… with no dialup modems required!

On the Web (most users):
Point your web browser to http://retro.arianasociety.com and use the web-based terminal emulator to connect.  This is the easiest way ever to get on a BBS!

Via Telnet (advanced users):
Open a terminal window (Mac or Linux) or a command prompt (Windows) and type:

Telnet ariana.synchro.net

Note that some newer Mac OS machines may require you to install the telnet application before you can connect this way.
