Keeping Safe this 4th of July

There’s no question that this 4th of July celebration is unique, different and very much unlike any other Independence Day celebration anyone living today has experienced. Most of us won’t get to have the massive cookout and professional fireworks shows that we’re used to, trading them for small, intimate gatherings with family and maybe watching reruns of fireworks from years past on TV.

But, there’s no reason to not make the holiday fun.  Here are some creative ways you can still maximize your 4th of July holiday while staying safe:

Have a Family-Only Barbecue: Just because you can’t host a party for the whole neighborhood doesn’t mean you can’t fire up the grill and still cook out. Pick up some hamburger patties, hot dogs and all the other familiar 4th of July foods at the grocery store, fire up the grill and serve the family.  You can add to the festive feel by grabbing some red, white and blue paper plates and napkins.  Eating outside, of course, adds to the ambiance.

Do Some Backyard Fireworks: You’re almost certainly not going to any large, professional fireworks shows this year.  They may show some reruns of past shows on TV, but something just isn’t the same if you can’t feel the percussion of the bombs bursting in air.  Thankfully, thousands of roadside fireworks stands have sprang up around the country, putting some lower-powered fireworks within reach.  Sure, it’s not the same as the big, professional displays, but there’s still a certain thrill in lighting the fuse and getting away as fast as you can.

Host a Virtual Cookout or Happy Hour: You may not be able to physically have your friends and family over for hamburgers and drinks, but you can still keep that social connection during the holiday.  Several video conferencing services are available for free or low cost, and Ariana Society members enjoy a private, secure video conference service with end-to-end encryption that you can use to connect virtually with your family and friends (they don’t have to be members to join your video call).  There’s no risk of spreading the coronavirus though your computer or phone, and it’s an added benefit that  you can invite special people from all over the world, not just the ones physically close to you.

Go Shopping: The 4th of July is about celebrating American independence, but retailers celebrate it a much different way. Whether you’re looking for face masks, furniture or a new Ford, almost everything will be on sale this weekend.  It’s a great opportunity to do some retail therapy without feeling too guilty.  Want a unique gift?  Sign up for an Ariana Society Preferred Membership by July 10, and you’ll also get a FREE Ariana Society bracelet, a 3-day, 2-night vacation certificate and a $1,000 restaurant and retail savings voucher (in addition to all the awesome benefits of membership).

How ever you choose to celebrate the 4th of July this year, keep safety in mind. Wear masks, be careful with the fireworks, and enjoy all that delicious grilled food!
